Snow Cats – a very decent proposal

Did you know that the owners of Independent Mountain - Jamie and Olivia Siegl also offer a bespoke marriage proposal setting service, right here in the Alps.

There is no Romantic Gesture too great that they cannot organise for you.

I think my favourite proposal that they have organised so far was for a lovely young couple whilst on a Ski Holiday in the Three Valleys.    This involved setting up a surprise Romantic proposal spot, complete with flowers and champagne, on top of a stunning snow capped mountain peak where  the young man could ask for his young ladies hand in Marriage.

Sadly, the couple’s 2 beloved pets could not come on  this particular  romantic ski break with them and share the most magical moment when she said “i do!”  so Jamie and Olivia were asked if they could recreate 2 animals to represent their absent friends… et Voila.   2 very EPIC Snow Cats were born….

What a talented pair they are (Jamie and Olivia i mean. Cannot comment on the Snow Cats as they have since melted into Snow Cat heaven..)

Snow-Camp Everest Challenge 2011

After the success of the Snow-Camp Everest Challenge in January 2010, which raised over £30,000 for Snow-Camp, the charity has recently launched the Snow-Camp Everest Challenge 2011 in partnership with adventure holiday specialists Base Camp Group. This time it’s going to be even more of an adventure!  From the base in Morzine participants will commit to ski or board 150km in just 48 hours – including 2 night stages! Just £185 books your place and covers all transfers, accommodation, ski passes, guiding and admin. Each participant then has a target of £1,500 to fundraise for Snow-Camp. This fantastic event is happening 27th -30th January 2011.

Half Term Ski Holiday Meribel

Families travelling to the well known resort of Meribel in the Three Valleys for their half term ski holiday will be spoilt for choice when it comes to keeping the whole family entertained.

On the piste,  the ski resort of Meribel offers a fantastic range of terrain and challenges for all levels of skiing ability, with a great selection of ski schools ensuring your little ones are in safe hands and most imporantly will be whizzing down the slopes alongside you in no time.

For those parents and children who are a bit older and a bit more advanced, then why not test your skills on the slopes by taking part in the Moon Park Mini Competition on Friday 19th February bewteen 12.00-14.00 hrs.  This is a really fun competition that is free to enter and open to all providing lots of goodies to win!  An unpressurised competition allowing you to put your skills learnt during the week to the  test!

Snowball Rally 2009

September is here and the countdown to season 09/10 has begun, however, if three months without the slopes feels like hell then why not join the Snowball Rally and get in some pre season riding all for a good cause!

The Snowball Rally cup takes place between 19th-21st November with teams of snow lovers from all corners of the country coming together to take on the challenge of skiing the most number of the 43 slopes across the UK.

Each team of four can use their own chosen route to reach as many dry ski slopes and snow centres as possible, with the winning team who visits the most during the three days being named as the Snowball Rally Cup Champions.

The challenge is all in the name of a good cause with each team raising funds for the charity Snow-Camp an organisation that provides opportunities to learn to ski and snowboard to disadvantaged young people from London.

The Rally kicks off at 11am from the Milton Keynes SNO!zone with teams collecting points at every slope they ride with the final race to the finish line at Milton Keynes SNO!zone being on 21st November for the deadline of 7pm where the points will be counted and the Apres party will commence!

WINTER X GAMES 2010 TIGNES

FIRST EVER EUROPEAN X GAMES LAUNCHED IN TIGNES

Move over Colorado it’s time for us Europeans to take the reigns by hosting the first ever X Games this side of the pond! Since the birth of the games in 1995, the Winter X Games has always taken place every year in Aspen Colorado. Now after fifteen years of being stateside, the European ski world is playing host, as the X Games 2010 moves to Tignes, France.

From 10th-12th March, the famous glacier resort of Tignes will be home to world leading winter action sportsmen and women as they compete in eight different disciplines including ski and snowboard superpipe contests and a snowmobile demonstration.

If you can’t get into resort to see the action up close and personal, then do not fear as around the clock coverage will be provided by action sports TV channel ESPN and the leading French broadcaster of pay-for-view TV, Canal+.

British Ski and Board Show 2009

The British Ski and Board show goes from strength to strength every year, with 2009 set to be the most exciting and jam packed to date. Back by popular demand is the Big Air and Freestyle show, the Interactive Ski Slope, Talk Theatres, and Ski Demos. A new addition for 2009 is The Couloir Challenge – which is ideal for those advanced boarders and skiers! Coming from the French word meaning ‘passage’ or ‘corridor’ a Couloir is a deep gorge or gully formation found in the side of a mountain. The show organisers have taken their demo areas to the next level by recreating this at the show for extreme ski and board lovers everywhere to test their wits and their nerves.

The largest consumer ski and snowboard show in the world is back at London Earls Court this year and is as jam packed as ever with bundles of mountain fun.
