Top Trends for Ski Gear 2010

With season 09/10 fast approaching it’s that fun time of year when thoughts turn to winter holidays and the new ski gear you are going to treat yourself to!

Every year new trends hit the market, providing a huge variety of options when it comes to both hard gear and ski outfits to be rocking on the slopes.

Here at Independent Mountain we are lending a helping hand in the style stakes and have put together a list of the latest trends for ski gear 2010.

Longer Jackets

Season 08/09 saw a few brands introduce longer style jackets for women that were of a baggier and looser style. This season the trend is still around and growing with all brands now having a minimum of one longer style in their collection with the majority having a great selection of these longer style jackets.

Loud Colours

The key outwear colours for season 09/10 are Seafoam Green, Electric Blue and Purple ensuring you stand out on the slopes! There is still a small dose of Mustard Yellow , however, it is being phased out.

Plaids

This season we see the popular prints of seasons before fading out and being replaced with plaids. To ensure you are on trend be sure to pick plaids in unusual palettes.

Zippers

It’s all about the Zip in season 2010! Top brands such as Burton, Holden and the North Face have used zippers for a fashionable and functional design. From RiRi waterproof zippers and muticolored zippers to the exposed metal zipper that creates a punk rock look, be sure that you and your jacket do not head onto the slopes without one!

Going Green

With the environment and eco friendly products being a hot topic it is no surprise that it has been introduced into ski fashion for season 09/10. Most brands will be providing environmentally friendly projects including outerwear, boots, bindings and boards, to name but a few, being made from recycled materials.

British Airways Changes Their Free Fees for Sports Equipment!

Before you pack your bags this winter be sure to pay attention to the baggage allowances and more importantly the fees associated with them!

In particular if you are flying with British Airways be aware that from 7^th October their once free ski/board carriage is no more, with passengers being charged £28 if they book their bag in advance of their flight online or £35 at the check in desk.

However, if you are clever with your packing and can fit all your holiday kit into one piece of luggage and it weighs less than 23kgs it is still free.

Other airlines charging for sports equipment are Easyjet charging £18.50 online and £26 at the airport, Ryanair charging £30 online and £40 at the airport. However, you can still enjoy free ski and board carriage when you fly with Swiss International Air Lines.

For anyone who has ever been the head booker for the annual ski holiday we have the perfect remedy for the headache more commonly known as trying to please everyone!

Arc 1950 is located in Les Arcs and is a deluxe ski in ski out pedestrian resort that prides itself on meeting the requirements found on even the longest of check lists. This beautiful resort with stunning views of Mont Blanc is interlinked by pretty cobbled streets providing door step access to all the facilities you need for a fantastic ski holiday. The resort boasts several restaurants and bars, hire shops for both ski and snowboards, a ski school and ski pass office, bakery, wine merchant, SPAR mini market and a pharmacy.

In addition there is also a jam packed programme of resort activities including floodlit skiing, torchlight descents and night time cross country, cartoon and movie shows, face painting and temporary tattoo artist , local story telling, ski joering (being pulled behind a horse on skis) and a great Children’s club called Cariboo’s run by the local ski school.

And if that’s not enough to keep you entertained then you can always go for a swim, Jacuzzi or sauna found in all of the residence buildings. The accommodation is refreshingly well comprised with nice spacious rooms, high standard décor and large balconies from which you can enjoy impressive views of the resort and its surrounding mountain range including the breathtaking Mont Blanc.
