Chalet Bouquetin – The Hidden Gem of The 3 Valleys

Walking over the threshold of Chalet Bouquetin you are met with the distinct impression that you have stumbled across something extra special and as you climb each of the four floors discovering more delights as you go, you suddenly realise your first impression was completely correct.

Located in the picturesque village of St Jean de Belleville you get a real sense of stepping back in time as you pull up outside the beautiful chalet. Once an18th Century monks accommodation lovingly converted, Chalet Bouquetin combines luxury and charm which has created a real work of art within its beautiful stone walls.

The chalet in itself is a voyage of discovery, with every archway and every carefully crafted staircase leading to yet another beautifully restored room. Whether it be starting your day with a breakfast with a view in the dining room looking out onto breathtaking mountains, curling up with a well deserved cuppa and a good book on one of the kitchen sofas after a hard days ski, enjoying pre dinner drinks in front of the fire in the lounge area or simply getting cosy in the snug area on one of the huge silk cushions, Chalet Bouquetin ensures you are spoilt for choice when it comes to where you spend your time there.

Whilst staying at the chalet you get a real sense of space, this is not only due to the four floors available to explore but also the beautiful original arched windows framing breath taking mountain views and drenching the chalet in sunshine right up until late afternoon.

Each of it’s four bedrooms are also of a great size and follow the artistic theme of the rest of the chalet with guests slumber lands being ones with great views, great style and the comfiest beds around. For anyone lucky enough to get the master suite on the top floor should be sure to take full advantage of the Jacuzzi bath looking out onto the mountain tops – pure heaven!

With all the chalet has to offer it is hard to drag yourself away and remind yourself that you’re actually there to ski. However, do not fear as with access to the Three Valleys ski region just a 5-10 minute drive away you’re sure not to be disappointed. What’s more when you arrive at the lift in St Martin de Belleville town you are greeted with a large free car park which even during the peak week of half term holidays had plenty of availability.

The town also has a fantastic bakery for those still peckish after breakfast and in need of some fuel on the lifts! A must do detour is a visit to the towns patisserie ‘La Rissole’ where you should be sure to pick up one of their yummy Brownies or la Croix de Savoie – delicious! A visit to the town is also a must after a full day skiing where you can enjoy a well earned après beverage in the towns piano bar Pourquois Pas and treat yourself to a nice cold beer for 3€ or if you’re feeling extra pleased with your days skiing a Champagne cocktail for 5.5€.

For those of you who do not want to be hitting the slopes hard every day then there are also lots of off piste activities to busy yourself with (that’s if you can drag yourself away from the comfort of the chalet) Long walks around St Jean de Belleville, a visit to the local church where you can admire breathtaking views of the valley or a drive into Moutiers to visit it’s pretty bridges, museums and boutiques. Plus with resorts such as Les Menuires only 8km away there is no excuse not to have an adventure off the slopes.

Everything is done to a very high standard at Chalet Bouquetin, from the Jamie Oliver crockery to its beautiful furnishings and funky lighting, the eclectic mix of Morocco meets Savoyard is one which creates a space of beauty and warmth enveloping you and making your feel at home immediately.

Chalet Bouquetin is a pure delight to stay in – beautiful accommodation, fantastic skiing and an idyllic retreat making it the hidden gem of St Martin de Belleville.
